A national home builder, Shea Homes, is going green. They are launching a green building program at their newest community, Encanterra. Encanterra, located at Combs and Gantzel Roads in Queen Creek, Arizona, will feature solar attic fans, low-flow faucets and shower heads, electric car chargers in the garage, and energy-efficient air conditioners and insulation made from recycled material. The program is estimated to add an additional $5000-$8000 to each home and the company will not be passing the additional costs onto the buyer.
Encanterra opened in late October and will have close to 2500 homes at close-out. The community features 14 floor plans ranging in size from 1,400 square feet to 3,600 square feet. Houses are priced from $255,000 to $495,000. Encanterra will feature a Tom Lehman-designed private golf course expected to open in 2008. The following year, a 42,000 square foot club is scheduled to open with features such as a fine dining restaurant and wine bar, indoor/outdoor banquet space, resort-style and indoor swimming pools, outdoor tennis courts, an 11,000 square foot athletic club, and more.
With more and more emphasis and awareness surrounding "going green" it is nice to see a home builder in Arizona recognizing this need.
